How can the functional program of a sports hall be transformed into a vertical layering of landscapes?
As part of the competition, a triple gymnasium with a grandstand, movement centre, buffet and office wing had to be planned for the Graz location.
The actual challenge is the productive interpretation of the task of transforming the desired object or plot planning into an urban development project: the cloud stages an intervention in the surroundings without physically crossing the boundaries of the plot. The spatial configuration of the sports hall lends the entire environment a surprising identity by rediscovering the existing space. The spatial programme is split—the sports hall at the bottom, the ABC and the administration at the top of the cloud. towards a threshold space between two parks: the ASKÖ hall can be experienced as the centre between the Schlosspark and the sports park.
